Dining out? Take your pick…
Generally, restaurants refer only to places that provided tables where one sat down to eat a meal served by a waiter. There are two main types of restaurants – casual dining and fine dining. In casual dining, food is served at affordable prices. Fine dining on the other hand, serves fine food and specialized cuisine with wine in a formal setting. Customers might wear semi-casual, semi-formal or formal wear, depending on culture and local traditions.
Today, there are various types of restaurants catering to different styles of cuisine, price brackets and religious requirements, as well as how the food is served. They vary greatly in appearance and offerings, including a wide variety of the main chef’s cuisine and service models.
Some of the more popular types of modern restaurants today are casual dining restaurants like fast foods, café, pubs, pizza restaurants and delivery, oyster bars, bistros, cafeterias, delicatessens, etc. Fine dining can be one of those French or Italian restaurants, steakhouses or seafood restaurants set in a formal and elegant atmosphere.
Throughout the years, restaurant concepts have also gone a long way from the formal sit down concept. Nowadays, theme restaurants have made a niche in the restaurant business challenging restaurant owners’ imagination, creativity and ingenuity in order to give their patrons a new dining experience. An example of this is a revolving restaurant which is located at the top of a tall building that slowly rotates to give patrons a 360 degree panoramic view, thus providing them an exhilarating experience while dining.
Restaurant types can also be classified according to the type of cuisine such as Japanese or French restaurants. People around the globe can now have a taste of the different cuisine from different parts of the world. One can eat a sumptuous Italian dinner from an Italian restaurant or experience the spicy, exotic food served from a Thai restaurant. There are also the barbecue houses, seafood restaurants or teppanyaki.
A restaurant is known by its type or the concept on which it is established and the type of food it serves. Different types of diners are enticed by the food presentation, as well as varied flavors served in restaurants. Food, being man’s basic needs, dining out will continue to be part of our daily experience. People simply love to try different types of cuisine, enjoy new dining experiences and new innovations of traditional flavors so restaurants will continue to flourish and will always be a lucrative business to invest on.
